Q1: What do you think of Stacy Snyder’s story? Should she be denied a degree for publicly endorsing drinking to her underage student? To what extent do you believe that potential employers should explore social networking sites to validate the “goodness” of potential employees? Is there anything on your Facebook page that might turn off potential employers? If so, are you going to take any action?
As a teacher, Stacy
Snyder shall maintain a positive, clean and serious image to her student.
This is because underage student will learn from teacher not only from the
knowledge in the book but also from the attitude of the teacher. This is also
applicable to parents. If teachers posting drinking photo in his/her social
media, students might learn from what their teach doing but those underage
might not know that drinking can be harmful if not being control. That is why I
strongly agree that Stacy Snyder shall not post those misleading photo to her
social media and I support the decision of the court.
Besides, it is not a
problem that employer viewing potential employee social networking as those
posting in social networking is meant to be view. If the potential employee
does not want others to view, he or she shall not post it in the first place.
And it is always a better way for the employer to know the potential employee
true character from social network rather than only base on observation
from few minutes interview.
However, employer
shall only take into account those good or bad characters that will influence
the performance of the work and not just “everything”. This is because no one
to be perfect in this world and everyone will have their freedom to do anything
as long as it will not harm others. Same goes back to Stacy Snyder’s
story, if she is not a teacher but a IT programmer, it is not Human that the
employer fire her just because of she is a drinker as long as this habit is not
affecting her working performance.
However, it is
advisable that we carefully manage what we post in the social networking as
this will definitely influence the first intense of others included potential
employer. I seldom post any crazy or abnormal post to my social network.
However, I will recheck again my social networking to make sure no any adverse
news that will affected me to my next interview.
Q2: The webcasting of funerals is an interesting example of the
flatness of the world. Is this an invasion of privacy or do next of kin have
the right to make such a decision? What other significant events in a person’s
life might be suitable for webcasting? Identify at least three such events and
then do some research to determine if webcasting of those events is already
taking place.
Webcasting of the
funeral have given a lot of benefit to the world. It helps friend and relative who
is staying far or is too busy have a chance to view the funeral. I do not think
that this is an invasion of privacy and next of kin have the right to make such
decision as the funeral is done by the next of kin. Only if it is clearly
stated in the will or any form from the dead that he/she do not want such
funeral, who can proof that the dead do not want to be Webcasting or want to be
webcasting?
Besides funeral, We
think that interview session is a good event that using webcasting. A normal
interview session is face to face asking some question, and doing so question.
This is all can be done by just using webcasting and this will save a lot of
time as the interview can be done anytime and anywhere even the employer want
to interview a talent from oversea, it can be done just by a single click. Most
of the international corporation such as Google and yahoo has used this method
to hired talent from every country.
Studying in class
room and in a fix time might not be effective to certain people. To solve this
kind of problem, we suggest that school can have webcasting session in their
lecturing time. This can make sure the lecturing being recorded down and
student can review back what had been teaching in the class room.
Furthermore,
webcasting also suitable to be used in Marriage ceremony/ dinner. This is to
let those who could not attend the ceremony/ dinner has a change to see the
event thru online. Those who watch online also can give their bless o the new
marriage couple thru online. A lot of western country has used this method in
their marriage ceremony and a lot of positive feedbacks have been given.
Q3: Osama Bin Laden represents a very dark image for most
Americans. His participation in the planning of the September 11th
attacks will forever mark him as evil. Should people, like Rashard Mendenhall,
who make positive or perhaps even neutral comments about terrorist like Bin
Laden be fired from endorsement contracts? Can making such comments be
considered grounds for termination of employment? Maybe dismissal from your
school as a student?
In this world,
everyone shall have freedom of speak no matter you are workers or students.
This is because we are not slave. However, we shall always be responsible to
what we talk. We shall always avoid to talk something that will hurt others
feeling. Although it is not wrong to have a idea of neutral comments about
terrorist like Bin Laden, this will hurt a lot of people who lost their family
in that attack. And it is always not to be good to support terrorist activity;
this will let other misunderstanding you to be one of the terrorist.
However, similar to
question 1, unless his ability to work has been affected, the company shall
only give him warning about what he comments or do investigation about his
background. Or unless Rashard Mendenhall being confirm as a terrorist, he shall
not be fired from endorsement contracts. Same as student, it is not HUMAN if
such student being terminate from study just because he/she has give support to
terrorist. The student shall be teaching correctly for not supporting terrorist
rather than chasing away the chances to correct their mind set. Dismissal from
school will just helping the world to create a new terrorist.
Q4: Very few people would question the service and
commitment of military personnel to our country. The two sergeants who created
the YouTube video openly criticized Delta Airlines for its charging of baggage
fees to military personnel. Is this open form of criticism of businesses and
their practices acceptable? Will it help businesses be more accountable to
customer?
Consumer view should
be the priority to be considered in any business decision. We strongly agree of
using the social media to give comment on business decision. Only when there is
criticism, there is improvement. Consumer can give their feedback either
support or disagree in social media and business management shall grab such
data to evaluate the successfulness of the strategy used. If there is a lot of
negative news, company could restructure their strategy to suit the situation.
This definitely helps businesses be more accountable to customer.
Q5: The use of Facebook (or any other social networking
site) can truly make a person’s life transparent, available for the whole world
to see. Should there be legislation regulating the openness of your life in
internet? Can we expect society somehow to regulate this without any laws?
The use of Facebook
(or any other social networking site) can just let other to see what u hope
they to see. It not really can let your life to be transparent. You are still
who you are in the reality (at least with current technology), but you have
given others a lot of chances to know where were you and what you have.
You should not do so. Although law shall not be enforcing to prohibit anyone to
be open in their life in internet, teaching will do. The knowledge of dangerous
that will occur if someone misused or carelessly used of social media shall be
given to public and by having human governance, I believe that society somehow
could regulate themselves without any laws being enforce.
